Can I use my router Bell Rogers cable modem?
I used to have Bell Sympatico DSL Internet, and I bought a router for home network connections. Now I'm passing on the Rogers cable and I use my old modem (Efficient Networks / SpeedStream 6300) for home networking. Rogers can not give me any technical advice, because it's your router, and advised me to contact Bell to see if the router has been created specifically for ony Bell. I called Bell, and could not help anyone, of course, because I am no longer his client. I plugged the cable modem to Rogers, then the modem to the LAN / WAN port on the router and PC to one of the 4 ports on the router. Only 2 lights on the modem: Cable and Power. The PC light is not lit. When you connect your PC directly to the modem works well. Power someone help me? I will not buy another modem from Rogers, as I have my own router.
I found a forum discussion on this subject (link below). It seems Speedstreem that 6300 is a combination DSL modem / wireless router, so in May by default will not work in combination with the cable modem. There may be a way to change firmware to allow this, but it is probably better to get another router. Another option through Rogers cable modem changes the current a modem home network gateway (this can be done at any full service, Rogers Video Store). This would cost only $ 1.50/mth only rent a standard cable modem, of course, is fully compatible with Rogers technical support - which could save you many headaches.
